Des Moines Family Photographer: Sadie, 6 Months

I met Sadie for her 6 month photos at her grandparent's house. We started the session inside and then headed outside to capture some snow scenery. She was just barely standing up at the time and getting the hang of sitting up but she was as cheerful as any 6 month old that I've had a chance to meet. She very much didn't mind the weather outside and at that moment, never really knew what to make of the snow on the ground. It was a lot of wonder to take in but we made it through a winter snow session.

Des Moines Family Photographer: Molly, Three Months

After Molly turned 3 months, I drove down to meet her at her home in Albia on a cold January afternoon. Her brother, Luke, who I have a long history of watching grow in photos and in person, made a quick cameo appearance. It was fun to watch them bond as siblings and so amazing to see their individualism next to each other.  All the excitement during the afternoon wore her out in the end so we were able to get some nice napping photos.

Des Moines Portrait Photographer: Bonne Finken, Fairytails/LoveAffairs

To kick off 2015, I want to post a session from the end of 2013 that I haven't posted. I drove half way across town to the Des Moines East Village to shoot some stock images for Bonne Finken's Fairytales/LoveAffairs album which was released in April 2014. She is a very talented and dedicated musician and it was such an honor to be a part of a creative project with so much artistery. It wasn't just any day. Snow was falling in chunks. The winds were kicking it in high gear. It was a winter blizzard! But we had so much fun during the session and a big thank you to Mike's film equipment, I was able to capture some great portrait shots.
If you have a chance please check out Bonne Finken at her website and throw some support her way.

Please also respect that there is intellectual property in the album design that is not mine. All images/designs are copyrighted material.

Des Moines Family Photographer: Maddux, 21 Months

We headed downtown to the newly renovated river walk where tall grass, ceramic tile walls and giant metal gates provided a modern backdrop to Maddux's 21 month and our winter family session. In the prior sessions, I would set up the camera on a tripod and use the remote control to shoot. I think those days are behind as Maddux's eyes and spirit is becoming more adventurous. Luckily, we had the help of Maddux's cousins Gina and Diana! His interest is drawn to exploring and his latest stories are told to us in roars and shouting laughters. It's unreal to see Maddux point out different surroundings to communicate with us his awareness of a new environment.

Life: Quang Grandchildren

A while back before my schedule filled up for the fall, I took Maddux and his cousins Kaylie, Tristan, Elina and Kaedyn out for a group session in Valley Junction on an austere October afternoon. When it was just Kaylie, Tristan and Elina, my brothers and I did the same as a Christmas gift for our parents. We decided this year would be a good year for a much needed update with new additions to the family.
