Exactly one year from the day we took these photos, Maddux gave Tosha and I the greatest moment in our life. He came into our world on one of the coldest day of the winter season. Since then, the amazing journey we began to take as a family has been such a sensational one.
Tears welled up in my eyes from the moment I saw the bond between Tosha and our son, and then between the two of us. We spent the only night in the hospital with barely two hours of sleep from all the rush of his presence flowing through our veins.
I can't begin to count the number of times I'd walk him up and down the stairs, in the dark hallways and late at night in his room in order to comfort him to sleep. That moment he reached his little hand out to feel my scruffy face just to make sure I was still there to watch over him just made this more real.
When his eyes followed our every movement and he began to shoot smiles back at us or started to laugh at our tongue clicks and high voices, loving him took it to another level. That was until he started to use those legs of his to get around. Oh how we both miss his crawling days. Not only did it make it easier to take quick photos, but Maddux walking, then chasing Mateo, and climbing stairs while babbling about his magnificant day with us meant that he's grown and learned so much in a twelve month time frame.
And the best part about it all is that this is only the beginning.
Happy Birthday Maddux.
